Chronicles Of A Lagos Ajebutter‘Heroes Of Lasgidi’
I am an Ajebutter. Not by birth, or by formings, or by swag – I am
simply an unapologetic Ajebutter by default. I didn’t choose to be born
one. God, without seeking my opinion (because He’s God, I guess), gave
me the genes of an Ajebutter and a funny Bri-Merican accent . By luck
or some twisted work of fate, fortune, Karma (I might have killed ten
defenseless puppies in my past life) or destiny, I have found myself in
Lagos, crazy Lasgidi, and this is my story…
I speak about pain this January. Not because I’m some junkie of sorrow. Neither am I trapped in some dark tunnel of depression, struggling with all my being to find the light. I do it because I want to keep it real. Come February, we’ll be all giggles and hiccups of delight. Then we can smile.
Lagos throws up a number of suffering. A typical day-out in the streets feels like a journey through a labyrinth of pain. Everywhere is littered with various facets of elemental human challenges. People missing body parts, the person stuck in a dark place, with no help to call on.
Then there are people who’ve lost faith in the goodness of humanity, who life has thrown multiples curveballs, jinxing them with poverty and abject penury. They go through each passing day with just a thought – mere survival. Not a future in sight, not even a distant promise to hang onto. But they pray for the unexpected.
A miracle, perhaps some gift from fortune, maybe a little love, or the ultimate: a hero.
Heroic deeds abound in Lagos. Everyday someone goes out of their way to put a smile on the face of a suffering stranger. They do this with a smile, and a heart bursting with love. Heroes are not the chubby men in suits, Cadillac, and Porsche, who do a good deed in passing, out of a desire to be left alone. They are people, big or small, high or low, who take the extra step to aid the unfamiliar suffering human.
But they are a rare breed, a dying species of love. Their numbers are dwindling too, as the suffering grows stronger each moment. Ask a hero why he does it, and you’ll be sure to receive a smile, and then silence. You will never understand, neither can words communicate the love in their hearts, from which flows their tangible charity.
They do it simply for the love. They do it for humanity, they do it for Lagos. They save souls, they make the world a better place.
Save a soul today. Give out some hope to a defeated man. Make love, not war. This is not me preaching at you. This is Joey Akan, the erratic Ajebutter. This is my Chronicles.

There are many different ways to approach someone and none of them are right or wrong, just some work better in different situations than others. So here are ten different conversation starters you can use, find a few that suit your personality and go out and try them.

- 1. Tease them. Playfully teasing someone is a fantastic way to show that you are a confident person who knows how to have fun with people. Particularly in a bar or club, if you can joke around and tease someone it really makes you stand out from the rest of the people they have been having the same old 'Where are you from? What do you do?' conversation with. Recently I was waiting in line at an ATM and the woman in front of me was wearing a pair of cowboy boots. When she turned around I said, "Nice boots, have you got your horse parked near here somewhere?" She found it funny and I was able to get her number a few minutes later.
-

- 2. Direct. I'll never forget one night in a popular club in London when I was talking to two sisters from Australia. There was a particularly good looking guy that every girl in the place was checking out. While there were prettier girls there, one of the sisters snared the guy by striding over to him and saying, "I'm the hottest girl you're gonna see in here all night, what are you gonna do to impress me?" Confidence is attractive to both sexes.
-

- 3. Introduce yourself. As simple as it sounds, just introducing yourself with a "Hi, my name is (your name)" is a great and effective way to meet someone. If they respond with a smile then you're off and running.
-

- 4. Comment on surroundings. Wherever you are at there is always something going on around you that you can comment on to start a conversation. If you're in a bar, "That cocktail looks great, what is it?" If you're in a bookstore and notice them browsing anything you've read, "That book is great, I read it a couple of weeks ago." If you're at a gallery perusing an unusual piece of abstract art, "What a terrific painting, takes me back to my fingerpainting days in kindergarten."

- 5. Ask their advice. This is a good one to use for either sex, as all people love to feel that their opinion matters and they are being listened to. If you're in a bar or a restaurant you can ask them, "Where else is good to go around here tonight?" "What's good on the menu in here?" If you're out shopping at the mall, "Hey quick question, do these sunglasses (or whatever item you are trying on) make me look more or less sexy?" (Being cheeky and playful is good).

- 6. Compliment. If you approach and compliment a stranger then you are implicitly stating that you are interested in them. So if you're confident enough to walk up and say that you really appreciate their sense of style or that you just noticed how they really stand out in the crowd, you will go a long way towards making a strong first impression on that person.

- 7. Eye contact. Not every ice-breaker you use has to be verbal. Making eye contact with someone is a great way to gauge their level of interest before you go and talk to them. Make sure you don't stare at them though, nobody likes to be gawked at. Just hold their eye contact for a few seconds and smile when they look back at you. A word of warning though, don't just make eye contact with someone all night lest you want to appear creepy. After three mutual glances you have been given permission to approach them, so what are you waiting for?

- 8. Dancing. If you are in a loud nightclub it's often difficult to hear anyone talk, so dancing is a great alternative if you know how. It's no secret that women go weak at the knees for a guy who knows how to move his hips, so if you have any basic rhythm at all get out on the dance floor and strut your stuff. Dance for a few songs then suggest going to the bar for a drink where you can chat somewhere quieter.

- 9. Observation. Noticing something about the person that shows any similarity between the two of you is a great conversation starter. I was walking down the street one day when I noticed a beautiful young woman just ahead of me. I was thinking of what to say to approach her when I noticed she had a magazine in her backpack from the same college I used to go to. So by paying attention all I had to say was "Hey, you go to X college, right?" After pretending I was psychic and chatting for a couple of minutes it was only natural to suggest continuing talking over a coffee.

- 10. Come up with your own. Sometimes the best thing to say is the first thing that pops into your head. A lot of times we censor ourselves from saying what we really want to say because we are worried about how it will be received. The truth is a lot of the negative reactions we envisage only exist in our head; most of the time people are actually happy someone has the confidence to come up and talk to them. Even that cutie you can't take your eyes off is open to meeting someone new so let your imagination loose and come up with your own conversation starter.

TIPS ON HOW TO ASK A GIRL OUT
How to Ask a Girl Out
Method 1 of 3: Before Your First Contact
-
1Gauge her interest. Is she making eye contact with you? Is she smiling, laughing and having a good time talking to you? If so, you're on the right track. What if she keeps looking at you because she's annoyed with you always looking at her? This is not a good sign, and the girl might be a little stressed herself. Make sure to keep your feelings about her private, and not so obvious.Ad
-
2Notice how often she touches you. If she's constantly trying to touch your hand or finds excuses to do so, then she's probably interested. However, don't assume that she doesn't like you if she isn't touching you. Likewise, don't start touching her if she isn't making contact with you. This usually scares or intimidates girls. If she won't even look at you, stay calm and find excuses to talk to her.
-
3Observe how she looks at you. If she likes you, she will either hold your gaze for a long time or pull away immediately. Either of these signs could mean that she likes you. If you happen to glance at the girl and you see her staring back at you, then this means that she doesn't like you, or she does like you, although she may quickly dart her head in a different direction. If she's looking at you in a mean way, check your teeth. If she pulls away quickly, it could mean she is nervous but still likes you.
- Remember that if you are having a conversation, girls tend to look at your face, so don't immediately assume that she likes you if you are speaking and she is simply listening. If you never talk to the girl, chances are you have a low chance of dating her. Friendships lead to loveship, but non-friendship leads to.... nothing.
Method 2 of 3: Interact With Her
-
1Look directly at her. While talking, make sure to look at her face and specifically her eyes. Pay attention to what she is saying so that when she asks you something or stops talking, you can continue the conversation intelligently. Don't get caught staring at her body (especially her breasts). Very few women like this. If she doesn't look at you or she ignores you, back off, and leave her alone for a little. Some girls don't like looking boys in the eyes and talking. Read her body language.
-
2Help her out. Offer to carry something heavy, get her lunch at the office, or do something nice for her. If she refuses, then wait until she really needs help or comforting, like when she's feeling down and having a bad day. Be friendly and outgoing to her. If she walks away quickly, don't follow her or say, "What??", just keep on going.
Method 3 of 3: Pop the Question
-
1Make sure you look and smell nice. You don't need to get decked out in a suit and tie to ask a girl out, but make sure your clothes are clean and well-fit, that you've brushed your teeth and are wearing deodorant. You should never ever wear the same clothes again, like you wear red sweatpants Monday, and then you wear them again on Tuesday.
-
2Approach the girl you like. Don't worry about coming up with something overly clever. Simply say "Hi" or "Hey." As the conversation moves forward you can give her a complement or ask her a question.
- If starting conversations is not your strong point, read these articles:

-
3Keep the tone casual and fun. Don't make the occasion seem like a big deal. Flirt a little! Relax, crack a joke, and break the touch barrier.
-
4When the time is right, ask her for a date. Ask her to go the movies or something else you both would be interested in. You could also invite her out to happy hour at a bar you both enjoy. Try to make it original.
- You might say: "I heard about this movie, _______. What do you think about it?" If she says she thinks it looks good, ask her if she'd like to go with you to see it. If she asks "As in a date?" say yes. Girls like guys who are sure of themselves much better than they do the cowardly guys.
- Another thing you might say while keeping the tone casual is: "I was going to check out this art opening on Saturday night. Do you want to go with me? I think it would be fun if we both went together."
-
5Be confident. If she questions if you're asking her on a date, say yes. Girls like guys who are sure of themselves.
-
6Be prepared for rejection. Keep your cool if she says no, smile and respond gracefully by saying, "No problem! Maybe another time." Change the conversation to something else or leave if you'd rather not hang around. Act as if you don't need her, because that sometimes will pique the interest of a girl. If she makes a face and yells, "Oh my gosh, no way!" this means that the girl is grossed out with you. Leave her alone and move on to another girl. Don't get your feelings too hurt though, this will leave you lifeless. Some girls just don't like this kind of stuff.'''posted by FERANMI BLACK

M&S staging first ever men's fashion show today featuring check, tweed, velvet and plenty of 'British swagger'
- This is M&S's first ever designer menswear range
- And after years of declining sales, a lot rides on its foray into menswear
- The Best of British collection celebrates British craftsmanship
- The design head drew inspiration from Sir David Frost and Sir Roger Moore
Marks & Spencer join Burberry, Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen today as they present their first designer menswear range on the catwalk at London Collections: Men.
Their Best of British AW14 collection preview show, held at the Hospital Club in London, marks a shift for the High Street retailer, who are hoping to rival Savile Row with their sophisticated range.
After a Christmas slump, M&S have suffered nine straight quarters of declining sales in clothing and homeware, so much rides on their foray into luxury menswear.
British swagger: 'These are classic pieces mixed in a more contemporary way'
Inspired by M&S's rich heritage, the Best of British range celebrates the best in British design and manufacture.
Tony O'Connor, head of menswear design, said he has drawn inspiration from stylish British icons such as the late Sir David Frost and former 007 Sir Roger Moore.
He has updated their 1970s looks for the modern M&S gent.

He says his Best of British catwalk collection is full of 'that British-style swagger and suaveness. I wouldn't say it's a dandification, because dandy implies someone trying too hard.
'It's that underlying confidence in dressing well which has come back.'
The designer says men's tastes are influenced by stylish modern men like Gary Barlow, who wore an M&S Best of British suit on The X Factor, and Sir Bradley Wiggins, who 'has swagger'.
He says Best of British model Oliver Cheshire is 'the boy'.
'He captures that London elegance.'
For AW14, the firm say their design team has referenced archive collections for inspiration, creating timeless pieces which reference classic sartorial periods - but with today's gentleman at the forefront.

The singer's manager, Scooter Braun, and Justin's childhood friend Ryan Butler, are also there for the sit-down. Even though the agenda for the meeting hasn't been clearly revealed, it’s alleged that this meeting has all the earmarks of an intervention.

- 10 FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT Dr. STYLEZ
1) I don't eat anything with loaf in the title. No telling what's ground up in it. It gives me a easy-queasy feeling in my stomach. I feel the same way about the word marinate (shudder). Why do you need soak for your food before cooking it? Do you not have teeth? And don't use the J word. I don't want juicy meat.
2) I hate to be hugged. Honest, it's not you. You don't smell bad. I just feel suffocated when people hug me. Please don't. I'm not being coy. I'm not leading you on. I don't like it. If you do it, I will stand perfectly still until your done so I won't be tempted to knee you in your sexual organs and have you arrested for harassment. I really hate being hugged. Oh and I don't cuddle either.
3) I will not date any guy who doesn't have an open mind toward duct tape. Enough said. However since I gave up dating for chocolate, I think it's a non-issue.
4) I don't drink alcohol in any form or amount. Not because I care about alcohol, it's because I'm a control freak. I hate the idea of not knowing what I'm doing. Besides once you've hosed someone off while they sit crying on the lawn in their underwear...it doesn't seem that cool. But what do I know, if I were a rock star maybe I'd like it. Dunno.
5) I've convinced my mother that I have a tattoo on my butt that says "I Live To Serve". Now whether this tattoo exists is between me and my butt.
6) I don't buy gallon or liter containers of drinks because once it's been opened and been out overnight, I can't bring myself to drink it. Even if I know I'm the only one home and that I put it in the fridge, I can't drink it. It's been opened and left unguarded. Yeah, I know I'm nuts. You knew I had food issues, hence the weird foodie blogs.
7) I can read an entire book 800 page book in one night. But I'm so tired the next day, I can't discuss it. I own hundreds of books and one puny bookshelf. I should probably buy a few more. I finally threw out the dishes and put books in the kitchen cabinets. I'm not kidding. Ask any one of the four people who have been to my house. Every drawer, cabinet, and closet is full of books.
8) I'm a horrible housekeeper. I'm okay with it. Just kick the stuff out of your way and sit on any empty pizza box. But then again, no one comes to my house. If you do drop by and get the urge to clean, don't. I get all jeebed out when people clean in front of me, especially when it's my house. I know, I know...more therapy.
9)I Love the smell of DOGS in the morning...weird huhn
10) I always eat chocolate bunnies by eating them feet first so the rabbit suffers.
